Long Island Pizzerias Unite to Support Farmingdale Families After Bus Tragedy

More than 100 pizzerias across Long Island came together to support the Farmingdale community following a tragic September bus accident involving members of the Farmingdale High School band in Orange County.

For every pie sold at participating restaurants, $5 was donated to the families affected by the crash, turning an ordinary day of business into a powerful show of solidarity.

More Than Just Financial Support

Anthony Laurino, owner of Phil’s Pizzeria and Restaurant in Syosset, said the initiative was about far more than raising money.

“It’s also a good thing for their spirit and mental health,” Laurino said. “A lot of people that weren’t injured saw some bad stuff, and seeing what strangers are going out and doing for them and their families is a step in the right direction for the healing process.”

A Community Coming Together

The fundraiser highlighted the strength of the Long Island restaurant community, as pizzerias from across Nassau and Suffolk counties participated in the effort.

By combining a simple act — selling pizza — with a shared purpose, local businesses were able to provide meaningful support to families navigating the aftermath of the tragedy.
